The SGA sponsors more than just their own events and activities, it also provides funds to other student organizations to help facilitate their various events, activities and programs.
Each semester, students pay a fee of $60 to SGA so that they can fund various activities and programs. These programs are divided into four categories: conferences, events and programs, club sports, and service. In addition to the four categories, SGA provides reimbursement for grad tests and Software programs up to $100.
The SGA fee also helps fund large-scale university activities, the Welcome Back Rally, pep rallies and SGA initiatives such as bottle refill stations and cell phone charging stations, Courtney Williams, SGA adviser, said.
These campus-wide provisions are available to all students, faculty and guests of Loyola.
Ryan Stanford, director of Finance for SGA, works to communicate with organizations and answer questions. He also works directly with the Finance Committee.
The Finance Committee is composed of undergraduate Loyola students from a variety of different colleges. They review all requests and vote to determine an amount
to allocate.
To apply for allocations, the organization must have attended the Student Leader Symposium in October and must be in good standing with the university. Organizations then fill out the electronic application through OrgSync.
Voting takes place at the weekly committee meeting, which the person or organization requesting funding is encouraged to attend to clarify any confusion and to answer questions.
“The Finance Committee works to ensure that funds are disbursed evenly throughout the semester,” Williams said.
Josh Byrd, president of Chi Alpha, is one of the many campus organizations that has used SGA allocations this past year for their student organization.
“We have used funds provided by SGA to help offset the cost of speakers for a leadership conference and also to help students pay for both local and national Chi Alpha conferences,” Byrd said.
