Editorial: Student’s murder robbed Loyola dearly

Erik Isidore was not the only Loyola student to rise to the occasion on Sept. 11, far from it. But he was the one who was there at exactly the right moment for The Maroon. When he walked into the office that morning, probably to ask a question about some previous assignment, Jason Dupuy, the editor, grabbed hold of him and said, “Hey, Erik, how would you like to do some reporting?”And with that Erik was out the door, canvassing the campus in an attempt to get students to put their grief into words. This enthusiasm was not unusual to see in Erik. At Delgado Community College he was the editor in chief of the student paper. He single-handedly ran the school’s primary source for news, sports and entertainment. That was the Erik who worked for The Maroon: affable and kind and genuinely enthusiastic about helping whenever he could. The saddest thing for us at The Maroon is that he died before we could get little more than a taste of it.We are not the only ones who feel that way. Erik was also involved in the drama department, where his death has affected every student and faculty member. People like him are important to our community. His dedicated involvement in different facets of the school was a characteristic that is hard to find in students at Loyola. In his short time here, he gave us the opportunity to meet a person who we can all learn from. We will miss him.
