Wolf Pack track teams find success at Southern Invitational

The Loyola track and field teams found success at the Southern Invitational.

The team featured strong performances from their freshman athletes at the first outdoor meet of the season.

Sasha Solano-McDaniel, sociology freshman, took the spotlight as she broke the school record in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 18:49.43. She also had a time of 5:17.73 in the 1500 meter run.

Mikaela Vanek, biology freshman, took fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.77.

Trey Alford, finance freshman, also had a stellar outing in his first outdoor meet. He came in 8th place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.68.

Other athletes also had great outings at the two-day competition.

Leah Banks, mass communication junior, finished third place in the 100-meter hurdles and the long jump.

Popular and commercial music sophomore Tristin Sanders was a second off from breaking a school record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.79,

Jarret Richard, computer information systems sophomore, finished 6th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.5.

The next meet for the Wolf Pack is the Louisiana Classic in Lafayette, Louisiana on March 16.
