Baseball team looks to improve conference record

Halfway into the baseball season, the Loyola Wolfpack has a current record of 20 wins and 19 losses.

Riding off the momentum of winning three straight home games, the team improved its record, going 3-2 against William Carey University and Dallas Christian College. This is the first time since 2006 that the baseball team has won 20 games. With the next three games away from home, the Wolfpack will try to improve their conference record and look to make a conference tournament.

“If we finish strong in our last 12 conference games we will make it. We have come a long way in the last year and are getting better each week,” said Doug Faust, head baseball coach.

The team has improved upon the foundation that Faust implemented last year with the help of great senior leadership and freshman stepping up more than expected.

Brandon Snow, criminal justice senior, has been a big help to the Wolfpack playing second base and providing leadership to the team.

“So far this season we have done very well clicking as a team, playing as a team, picking each other up when we needed to get picked up and always having each other’s back in key situations. We believe in every single person on our team and are extremely confident in the fact that we believe in each other,” Snow said.

The baseball team looks to make a conference tournament as well as possibly having a winning record, something the team has only done twice since 1991.

Philip Cazayoux, criminal justicesenior, is hopeful about the future of this season.

“We’ve won 20 games for the first time since 2006 and I think we have a good group of guys. We have potential to win over 30 games this season,” Cazayoux said.
