Loyola has selected Doug Faust as the new Wolf Pack head baseball coach.

Faust filled the position left vacant by Gerald “Gee” Cassard after he resigned on July 31 to become the Director of

Baseball Operations at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La.

Faust joins Loyola after nearly 15 years of coaching at a variety of New Orleans Catholic high schools.

Now Faust begins a new stage in his career with coaching at the college level.

“A thing like Loyola is a dream come true,” Faust said.

For Faust, Loyola is a special place and says that it will be a great place to work, not only for being born and raised in New Orleans, but also because of his relation to the past of the Loyola baseball program.

Jean Faust ́60, father of Doug Faust, was a Pack baseball player who graduated in physical education.

Doug Faust followed in his father ́s athletic footsteps by playing collegiate baseball. Faust played at Delgado Community College, where he won All-Regional Honors as a second baseman in 1987 and finished his collegiate career at the University of New Orleans playing from 1988 to 1990.

In 1996, Faust began coaching at Archbishop Hannan High School in Meraux, La., where he coached his team to nine consecutive years of playoffs, six Quarter-State Final appearances and seven Regional competitions. Additionally, his team received six District titles and was state runner-up in 1998.

Faust explains that his previous teams ́ successes are a result of stressing fundamentals like discipline and passion for the game while instilling a program that was consistent. Faust says he felt he was able to build many disciplined programs from the ground up.

Now that Faust will be leading a baseball team at the collegiate level, he says that he expects the pace of his college-aged players will be faster than the high school- aged players. Faust says the recruitment aspect of collegiate sports and fundraising will be a new experience in his job.

Michael Giorlando, director of Athletics and Wellness, said, “We are delighted in having Coach Doug Faust as our new head baseball coach. He is a proven leader and he understands the mission of the university. Coach Faust will continue to recruit high-caliber local and out-of-state student athletes and will constantly strive for our program to be successful on and off the field.”

Faust says that as soon as Giorlando appointed him to be

Loyola ́s newest head baseball coach, he resigned from Shaw and began at Loyola the next day.
