Coming off of the Carnival season, the women’s Wolf Pack basketball team matched up with the Martin Methodist Redhawks Thursday night in the Den. The team was looking to avenge a loss to the conference rival earlier this season.

The score was knotted 8-8 in the first quarter before the Redhawks scored nine straight points to push the lead to nine toward the end of the first quarter. A layup by guard Zoie Miller helped to cut the score to 17-13 going into the second quarter.

The Pack trailed 26-17 midway through the second quarter until the team outscored Martin Methodist 12-3 in the closing minutes of the half. The score was tied at 29 at halftime.

The teams battled back and forth in the third quarter. The Redhawks would eventually hold onto a slight lead 44-41 going into the fourth quarter.

It was a tight game down the stretch. A driving layup plus the foul by Zoie Miller gave the Pack a 49-48 lead. Junior guard Kylah Jones took control of the offense for the Pack, scoring 10 points in the last two minutes of the ball game. The Pack would eventually go on to win the contest 63-50.

Jones led the Pack with a career-high 19 points. Junior forward Meghan Temple added 10 points and seven rebounds in the game. The team shot 45 percent from the field and 8-of-18 from the three-point line. The team improves to 12-3 in SSAC play and 17-5 overall. The Pack will be back in action on February 13 to take on Bethel University in the Den.
