WYES to air documentary on the history of the Holy Trinity Cathedral

WYES, local television station, will air its new documentary “Greeks in New Orleans: 150 Years of Holy Trinity” at 7 p.m. on May 7.

This documentary will feature the history of the Holy Trinity Cathedral, the first Greek Orthodox cathedral in the western hemisphere.

Aislinn Hinyup, WYES promotion manager, said that as the people of Greece migrated to New Orleans, they looked to preserve their heritage, customs and faith.

To do this, they established the Holy Trinity Cathedral in 1864 in the city, and it now serves Greek Orthodox families across the area. It is also home to the annual Greek Festival, which will begin May 22.
