“Ars Hiphopica”

Mike Hazel

Hip hop is the poetry of my people,

It keeps crowds moving like the Beatles.

Its expression spawned from New York’s finest,

And it isn’t always about violence.

I hear stories of dreams and struggles,

Good times and daily troubles.

Our poetry is energy.

It explains a way of life not everyone sees.

Yet people can relate from America,

to places over seas.

Hip Hop has no shade or color,

You experience it differently than your brother.

Sometimes, it’s every line you want to quote,

But that’s what makes it so dope.
