School of Mass Communication makes accreditation history

Loyola’s School of Mass Communication has received two national accreditations and is the first Jesuit university in the country to obtain both.

The Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications and the Public Relations Society of America’s Certification in Education for Public Relations were awarded to the university this past week.

“For parents and students looking for the best university mass communication program possible, these accreditations give Loyola a critical stamp of approval and serve as proof of the top-quality educational experience we offer to prepare students for successful careers in journalism and strategic communications,” Sonya F. Duhé, Ph.D., a Loyola professor and director of the School of Mass Communication, said in a university press release.

The School of Mass Communication underwent a rigorous, five-year self-study to ensure the university met the accrediting councils’ standards.

According to Duhé, these national accreditations will “reap dividends” for Loyola School of Mass Communication graduates in the workforce who are set apart from other job seekers due to these distinctions.
