This season has certainly been one for the books.

With the Den full of the family, friends and fellow students, the women’s basketball team won its last home game of the season on Feb. 25. The 73 to 62 clench over Mobile University has allowed the ‘Pack to pencil in one of the best seasons in recent history.

Political science junior and guard Adriene Easley said she feels the team is ending the home season on a good note.

“The season went really well,” Easely said. “We had a really good record, and we’re finishing second in our conference.”

Loyola plays in the western section of the Southern States Athletic Conference. Upon the last regular season game, Loyola stands second in the conference behind Belhaven. This standing places the team above five other teams and ranked 23rd in the entire conference.

The team has made a drastic improvement in its record since last season, jumping from 20-11 to 23-4.

Throughout the season, the ‘Pack has fought for wins and shown that the Loyola basketball team is capable of taking a spot among top ranking teams.

Before the last home game, psychology/pre-med senior Amy Sprout and sociology and criminal justice senior Kieva Council were honored for their contributions.

Both have played for the basketball team since their freshman years.

Teammates, like business management sophomore Amy Moody, praised the seniors’ contributions and the leadership they have displayed this season.

“Amy and Kieva are just the best — amazing teammates and amazing people,” Moody said.

Although the regular season might be over, the team is in no way done putting in work on the court.

“The good thing about it is, you know it’s not over yet,” Easley said. “We could still win the conference tournament and then go on to play in the national tournament.”

The SSAC conference tournament is held in Rome, Ga. and began Feb. 29. The team hopes to do well enough to move into the national tournament.
