Student Government Association discussed a possible change of adviser for the 2009-2010 academic year at the senate meeting April 14.

A decision was not reached at that time, so an “emergency session” was called, and the vote will be held April 19 at 7 p.m.

According to SGA president Cade Cypriano, political science senior, four candidates have been nominated for the position: Christopher Cameron, director of Co-Curricular Programs; Roger White, vice provost of Academic Affairs; the Rev. Ted Dziak, S.J., vice president of Mission and Ministry; and David Robinson-Morris, Jr., associate director of Alumni/Parent Relations.

Currently, Cameron is SGA’s adviser and has held the position since 1999.

When the SGA Constitution was revised in March, changes were made to “Article XIII: Consultation and Managerial Responsibility.” The new article states:

“The Student Government Association shall regularly report to and consult with the Vice President of Student Affairs. A three-fourths (3/4) vote of the Senate can express a vote of ‘no confidence’ in the Vice-President of Student Affairs.

“A three-fourths (3/4) vote of the Senate can transfer all managerial duties as according to the bylaws from the Vice-President of Student Affairs onto an administrator of the Senate’s choice. The judicial branch shall operate in consultation with the university judicial officer, taking his/her directions under advisement.”

This means if the vice president of Student Affairs (who is automatically adviser by default) does not get a majority vote of confidence from the Senate, that body is able to vote in a replacement.

The adviser must be a university administrator.

David Zoller, president-elect for the College of Social Sciences and political science junior, brought the motion to SGA to vote on an adviser.

“It was basically done so we could take the opportunity to implement the revision in the (SGA) constitution,” Cypriano said.

The student body has full confidence in Dr. Petty, who has consistently exhibited support for student leadership and self-governance. The routine evaluation of Student Government Association's "managerial representative" is an invaluable part of those efforts to ensure that students are provided with the a representative body equipped to effectively address the needs and concerns of the Loyola community .

Well, its been a long time coming Chris. You were nice but a total ass whenever we tried to move Loyola forward you told us no...so we did things without your approval and now after I've graduated, they're getting rid of you. I hope your carpet is still stained from that nasty spill during President's Open House two years ago....its hideous anyway and I loved when we all laughed at the timing of the whole deal. Good riddance my friend, you're a fine person but you've sucked as SGA adviser.

Hard to report on the SGA voting no confidence on the VP if the VP's name (Cissy Petty) isn't mentioned in the article.

This article doesn't make any sense. What are you talking about? Are you voting "confidence" or "no confidence"? And if the point is to replace Chris Cameron, then why is the Vice President involved at all? And why is Cameron nominated again if the point is to replace him? SGA has no idea what it is doing.
