In its new television ad campaign, online dating site Match.com criticizes rival eHarmony.com's inability to match 20 percent of personality types and refusal to connect homosexuals. While the commercial may shift eHarmony users over to Match, it also illustrates the imperfections with online dating and with matchmaking in general.
As assistant dean of the College of Social Sciences, I have the unenviable job of telling students they are on probation, or must sit out for at least a semester, or even that they cannot return to Loyola.
As America travels further and further into the 21st century, more of America's historical cultural groups are losing their importance in the world. For instance, how many people in high school or in college with a historic Cajun background can speak only a couple well-known phrases such as "Laissez les bon temps roulez" (Let the good times roll) or "Comment ca va?" (How you Doing)? True Cajun culture has been rapidly dying out for several years. This demise of Cajun culture is most likely due to a dwindling number of people who can speak the Cajun-French language and an increase in those who just don't care.
With the Presidential campaign dominating the national news and with Mardi Gras dominating the undergraduate existence, I thought it'd be a good time to reflect on an under-discussed topic vital to anyone at Loyola or in this city: the recovery of New Orleans.
As Hurricane Katrina slammed into our city two and a half years ago, all of New Orleans felt the effects of global warming. A warmer Gulf brought a Category 1 storm to an excess of Category 4. With August 2005 in mind, there is no better place to start a movement to prevent future climate catastrophes than New Orleans.

The faculty senate approved the Student Government Association's smoking policy, after Robert Gerlich, S.J. voted in favor, breaking the tie.
"I am absentee voting," graphic design sophomore Audrey Schreck said.

Everyone complained about this year's Voodoo Fest lineup. We all whined about the prices and Death Cab For Cutie's sudden drop out. But when the weekend finally rolled around, time could not be better spent anywhere other than with your drunken friends in City Park.

At Loyola University New Orleans, the mission of the Monroe Library's Learning Commons is to provide a collaborative space where students, faculty and staff can come together to study, learn, teach and socialize.
