Many students arrive on campus in the fall without a car. For residents, the cost of parking on campus adds an additional $200 a semester to an already hefty tuition bill. So we're commonly told about all the other means of transportation: bikes, buses, cabs, Safe Ride and the streetcar line. Biking isn't ideal for a night out. The bus, streetcar and Safe Ride have their limitations on timing and distance. The most probable means of transportation becomes a cab.
Identity theft can put lives on hold
When English writing sophomore Erin Knowles left for T.J. Quill's one night last week, she had no idea her identity would be at risk when the night was over. After leaving her purse near a friend to talk to another for about 15 minutes, Knowles returned to find that it was nowhere to be found. The cell phone, student ID, credit cards and passport in Knowles' purse were stolen as well.
After traveling over 5,000 miles by herself at 18, Allegra Tartaglia, started college in a completely new country, leaving her safety net far behind. For the first time in her life, Tartaglia now a history senior, was independent from her parents.Associate Director of Residential Life Amy Boyle said that when children come to college they become more independent, and it can be hard for parents to adjust.
