Academy Awards showcase this year’s talent

As the Best Picture list expanded from five to ten films nominated this year, the nominees that probably wouldn’t have been there last year now have a shot. One such film, “A Serious Man,” expertly captures the sense of not-quite fitting in with society via a Jewish professor in the 1960s Midwest. Directed with the oddball characteristics of the Coen Brothers (allegedly based on the experiences of their father), the film deftly conveys the sense of what it means to be an outsider.

The other afternoon I approached the men’s single occupancy bathroom located at the front of Monroe library. The door was locked, so without thinking twice, I tried the adjacent single bathroom whose door’s sign read “Women”. Undeterred by the female illustration, I used the vacant bathroom.

Visibility is needed

Talking to the candidates

I showed up to the required meeting for all SGA candidates knowing absolutely nothing. I got an election packet, listened to campaign rules and took it all back to my dorm room. I filled out my forms, and after checking off my intent to run for President, I looked for the SGA constitution to find out what I’d actually be doing as president.

Talking to the Candidates

Since my first semester at Loyola University, I have played an active role in Student Government Association by serving as a senator my freshman year and as the College of Music and Fine Arts president this year. In both of these capacities, I have worked to resolve issues regarding the need for more practice rooms, organizational funding and course evaluations.
