The newest fraternity on campus, Pi Kappa Phi, is currently in the early stages of selecting founding fathers for the Loyola chapter.

Pi Kappa Phi leadership consultant Keenan Dollar is on campus for the next few weeks to help get the process started.

“We are looking for men with character, leadership, achievement, scholarship and service,” Dollar said. “I am meeting with potential guys and holding interest sessions.”

Pi Kappa Phi is holding open recruitment, which is the standard for all of their chapters across the nation.

“We are currently going through recruitment, I would ideally like to have 15 to 20 men when I leave in three weeks,” Dollar said.

English writing and mass communication sophomore Andrew Ketcham is one of the students who has applied to be a founding father.

“I want to be a part of something bigger than myself,” Ketcham said,.“I met with Keenan Dollar. He contacted me after I filled out the interest form. I think the current fraternities on campus are great and they all have really great men, but this is really good that we are expanding. This will provide a balance and diversity. There will also be more philanthropy which contributes to our Jesuit identity.”

Look, if you have a problem with the connotations carried by frats, then perhaps you should rethink your affiliation with them. Changing a word because you don't like the concept rings a bit Orwellian, don't you think? Frat is not an invented word. It is merely the condensed version of the organization's name. If you don't like fraternities, then don't join one.

The anonymous poster is behaving ridiculously.

The term frat has negative connotations.

For those organizations that have higher goals set out for themselves the preferred term is fraternity.

Anonymous,

My comment doesn't have anything to do with politics. I just think that it's ridiculous that one can't have a normal conversation with grown-ups without someone trying to push their politically correct viewpoint on you. When people are insulted by the use of the word "frat", something is really wrong here.

So, one Maroon article writes about watching what you say that could be considered "rape culture". This comment section has someone offended by the word "frat". I mean seriously people. Can anyone have a normal conversation anymore without someone trying to push their PC agenda?

By the way, if you disagree with me, I just want you to know that's disrespectful and that I'm very offended.

Furthermore, you shouldn't put slang in headlines right. I mean i'm not a journalism wiz but i think that is against something like the ENGLISH LANGUAGE. I think this writer should be fired immediately because this story is poorly written and they obviously don't know anything about grammar or respect.

Frat is incredibly offensive and I wish people would stop calling fraternities "Frats"
We are not frats because we are not the sterotype that society has created and associated with the word frat. Please stop being so disrespectful, we wouldn't call your newspaper a rag.
