Charred picture frames and debris liter the area as staff members of Fat Harry’s bar take a break from cleaning up after a fire. A one-alarm fire started in the building on Sept. 2 at 7:30 a.m. No one was present in the bar at the time. Owner Deborah Huling, A’78, said the fire department responded very quickly, and she called the firemen “incredible.” Still awaiting an insurance adjuster, Huling does not know when the bar will reopen or what the full extent of the damage is. The fire started in the bar area. The rest of the building, including the kitchen and pool table area, sustained smoke damage but no fire or water damage. Huling thanks all her staff and patrons, including Loyola students, who came by to help clean up. Huling’s family has a legacy of Loyola graduates. Besides herself, her husband received his undergrad and MBA from Loyola, her son also received his MBA from Loyola, and her daughter and son-in law attended Loyola Law School.
