Zika Virus causes global emergency

The World Health Organization has declared a global emergency related to the virus after a major outbreak in South America.

The WHO was highly criticized for its response to Ebola that killed 11,000 people is now trying to plan on how to handle this virus.

The U.S Center for Disease Control has advised pregnant women from traveling to a majority of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Zika was first found in 1947 in Uganada but up until last year it wasn’t seen as serious, roughly 80 percent of those infected never experienced symptoms. Infectious disease experts have pointed its resurgence to a point mutation.

WHO estimates there will be 4 million cases of Zika in the Americas by next year,
