The Loyola Police Department and representatives for Take Back the Night took over the Residential Quad to raise awareness of crime in New Orleans.

At the event, held on Oct. 14, Chief Patrick Bailey shared some tips with students and faculty members in attendance.

“Know where you’re at, especially at night. Be aware of your surroundings. Look out for each other,” Bailey said. “Look at us as a resource. You can come to us and ask us any questions. Rely on us, and we rely on you.”

LUPD also used the event to promote the RAVE Guardian app, which can be used off campus and has the ability to reach any emergency stations.

“We want people to be aware of crime and we want them to be able to do something about it. We want to try to enhance people’s safety. It’s like using a seatbelt,” Captain Roger Pinac said.

Representatives for Take Back the Night, a non-profit organization whose mission is to raise awareness on sexual assault, also reminded the Loyola community about the upcoming annual event that will be held on Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. in the Horseshoe.
