Men’s Basketball ranked fifth in SSAC preseason poll

The Southern States Athletic Conference released their 2016-2017 Preseason Poll last Wednesday, selecting the Wolf pack to finish in fifth place.

Last season the Wolf pack finished with a record of 17-13 and 10-8 in SSAC play securing an eight-seed going into the conference tournament.

In last year’s conference tournament, Loyola squared off with the ninth seeded Mobile in the first round where they cruised to a 70-53 victory.

Loyola’s next matchup of the tournament was a battle with the top seeded William Carey University, where the Wolf pack pulled the quarterfinal upset, sneaking out an 80-78 win.

With momentum on their side, the Wolf pack reached the semifinals, taking on Faulkner University but losing to the eventual tournament champions 74-69.

Loyola looks in good shape starting the season as they return all five starters from last season and other pivotal role players.

Senior Johnny Griffin looks to lead the Wolf pack deep in the tournament once again after leading last year’s team in scoring and rebounds, while receiving multiple accolades in his junior campaign, according to Loyola Athletics.

The Wolf pack tip-off their season on Oct. 24 against Carver Bible College at First NBC Court.
