Levendis named new University Senate chairman

Loyola’s University Senate met for the last time in the 2015-2016 school year on May 12.

John Levendis, associate professor of economics, was elected chairman for the 2016-2017 school year. Joelle Underwood, associate professor of chemistry, was elected to the vice chair position.

The senate discussed a potential voluntary severance program for faculty over the summer to lower expenses. The proposal is still in progress as it will require an additional endowment draw and decisions on terms of eligibility for the program.

A pricing study is being carried out now to decide on new discount tuition rate for future students.

A motion was voted on during the meeting that called for all tenured members of the faculty, including sitting administrators, to teach no less than one full credit course per calendar year, except during approved leave; the motion failed to pass.

A motion put forward during the meeting, to be voted on in the fall, moved to rename the Senate Community Engagement Award the Dr. Jon Altschul Award for Community Engagement.
